Penn State Encouraging, but Not Requiring, COVID-19 Vaccinations for Fall Semester

“While we are not currently requiring vaccinations, Penn State is not impartial when it comes to getting vaccinated,” said President Eric Barron. “The university’s stance is that everyone who can get a vaccine should do so as soon as possible to attain very high vaccination rates on all Penn State campuses.”

newly released survey data, the majority of Penn State student and employee who responded are already vaccinated against the virus.

Penn State Isn't Making COVID-19 Vaccines A Must, Will Test Those Unvaccinated Weekly In The Fall

With the fall semester beginning in three weeks, Penn State said it’s not making COVID-19 vaccinations a requirement, but people who are not vaccinated need to wear masks in university buildings and those who haven’t shared their vaccination status with the university will be tested weekly, according to a virtual town hall meeting Tuesday. 
University leaders, including President Eric Barron, said students who will be living in residence halls will have to test negative prior to their arrival. The university said it will host vaccine clinics on and around campus and will conduct surveillance testing throughout the fall semester. ....

Penn State leaders address community prior to Derek Chauvin Minneapolis verdict


Penn State university leaders addressed the community regarding the upcoming end of former police officer Derek Chauvin s trial following the death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis.
In the message, Penn State President Eric Barron, Executive Vice President and Provost Nick Jones, Vice President for Student Affairs Damon Sims and Vice Provost for Educational Equity Marcus Whitehurst expressed their “grief’ and “deepest sympathies” with the family of George Floyd.
“Everyone must challenge and defy these inequalities, and work harder every day to be anti-racist,” the leaders said in the statement.
