With apologies to Donny and Marie, Altice USA is a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll. However, the broadband growth challenges of its rock and roll side – the Optimum (former Cablevision) footprint in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut that tangles with Verizon Fios – tends to overshadow the underappreciated broadband potential of its rural Suddenlink footprint.

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - It’s been one year since Suddenlink customers aired their grievances, and 12 months later, we’ve discovered customers are still sending complaints.
One of those complaints is from Jason King, who says he did not receive a warning for going over his data limit and was shocked when he opened his bill and saw the normal $65 bill was $377.
“I just have internet. I just have wifi. That’s all I have,” King said. “I came here [Suddenlink] like two weeks ago and paid my bill, asked how much my bill was and they never said anything about the $300 overcharge.” ....

CHARLESTON The West Virginia Economic Development Authority voted Tuesday to award the first loan insurance requests for four state internet providers who received winning bids in last Fall’s rural broadband auction, while a lawmaker continues to ask about one company’s ability to deliver.
The EDA approved loan insurance requests for Bridgeport-based Citynet for a loan up to $16 million from MVB Bank; Preston County-based Digital Connections/PRODIGI for a loan up to $2.6 million from Clear Mountain Bank; Bluefield, Va.-based GigaBeam for a loan up to $8.4 million from Citizens Bank of West Virginia; and a transfer of a loan up to $3 million for Buckhannon-based Micrologic from Citizens Bank of Weston to Citizens Bank of West Virginia. ....

New Interactive Map Shows Areas Receiving Rural Broadband Expansion | News, Sports, Jobs

CHARLESTON Thanks to a new map developed by the West Virginia Broadband Enhancement Council, the public can see the parts of the state set to receive access to high-speed internet over the next 10 years.
The new Broadband Availability Map available at broadband.wv.gov shows where the state will receive access to broadband after the first phase of the Federal Communication Commission’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund auction.
Nine companies were selected in the RDOF Phase I auction to expand high-speed internet to unserved parts of West Virginia. These companies will receive $362.1 million through the auction out of a possible $766 million for projects in 119,267 Census tracts. ....
