Should a billionaire run Arizona’s elections?

How many Arizonans like the idea of one billionaire family manipulating the way Arizona county election offices operate? That’s an unpopular idea for people across the political spectrum, especially when the billionaire is Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, whose controversial actions make him distrusted by Left and Right.
Yet that’s what happened last November in Arizona and dozens of other states. Zuckerberg and his wife gave $350 million to a supposedly “nonpartisan” nonprofit, the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL), which in turn re-granted the money to thousands of local government election offices across America, including nine of Arizona’s 15 counties. ....

Doha: As part of the Research Wednesdays series of seminars organized by the Research and Graduate Studies department of Qatar University (QU), Dr Abdelali Agouni, Manager of Post-Award Research Support for Grants and Contracts Department at QU, was the guest of the seventh episode titled “Research Grants Prospects and Challenges”. The episode was streamed today at the university’s Instagram account.
QU today is a hub for research and academic excellence as the university currently has over 1,300 researchers and provides with two types of grants, internal which are fully and directly funded by QU and provided to staff and students. The second type is funded externally by one of the partners like QF, QNRF, QP, QFCO, Total and many others and programmes.   ....

NEWPORT, Ky. (FOX19) - A Northern Kentucky distillery is stepping and stepping up to help service workers at local bars and restaurants still struggling into 2021.
New Riff has done well since launching in 2014, but even they weren’t immune from the pressures of the pandemic.
“We never dreamed that we might go from making whiskey to making hand sanitizer for the front-line workers, but we did it,” Amy Tobin, New Riff communications director, said Monday. ....

CEBU City Councilor Eugenio Gabuya did not know that Units 1, 2 and 3 of the existing Carbon Market will be demolished and replaced with commercial hubs of Megawide Construction Corp., the developer that committed P5.5 billion to modernize the market.
He was clueless about the change until he asked Megawide during a special session of the City Council last Monday, March 15. This fact took time to sink in: the old Carbon would no longer be where they stand now. They would be replaced with other Megawide commercial buildings. Vendors will be moved to a new structure at the Freedom Park and Warwick Barracks area. ....

Court grants 20-day TRO to 3 former MCWD board members

A COURT in Cebu City issued a 20-day temporary restraining order on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, favoring three former members of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) board of directors.
Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 7 Judge James Stewart Ramon Himalaloan favored the camp of their lawyer Ralph Sevilla, former City Councilor Augustus Pe Jr. and lawyer Cecilia Adlawan in the case they filed against Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella, Acting Administrator Jeci Lapus of the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) and former interim board of directors.
Himalaloan states in his two-page resolution that the temporary restraining order (TRO) “shall be effective for a good of twenty days from service on the defendants through their counsels.” ....
