HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Music is a language unto itself, and at William Carey University, faculty and students have found a way of using it to fine-tune and amplify the voices of those who often have difficulties expressing themselves,
Carey’s music therapy programs have been rewarded for their efforts, receiving a $57,000 grant from the Mississippi Council Development Disabilities to improve the social skills of adults with intellectual disabilities through online music therapy sessions. ....

Juvenile plan set for next two years

The Malheur County Juvenile Crime Prevention Plan for 2021-2023 has been completed and was presented to the County Court Wednesday, by Susan Gregory county juvenile director.
The plan was created working with a number of community partners and local school officials.Â
The report showed that in 2019 there were 114 youth involved with criminal referralsÂ and 136 with non-criminal referrals. In 2020 there was a considerable drop in those numbers as there were 92 youthÂ with criminal referrals and 94 non-criminal referrals.
The decline is partially attributed to COVID because of the number of youth not in school, but at home.
However, the report said that brought out other problems such as a disconnect from school, mental health issues and possibly increased substance abuse. That also led to poorer grades and poorer attendance.âThrough education and skill building in the moral recognition therapy program we hope to guide youth on decision mak ....

Dalit families of Gangur in Arkalgud taluk, who were released as bonded labourers in the 1990s, staged a protest in Hassan demanding grant of land on Saturday. The portion of Gobbali reserve forest land they had cultivated for years was taken over by the Forest Department on Friday.
Under the banner of Dalit Hakkugala Samiti, the protesters took out a march from Hemavathi Statue Circle to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Along the march, they raised slogans. ....
