Ranitha Gnanarajah, a Sri Lankan lawyer and civil activist, has been included in this year s list of 14 International Courageous Women award presented annually by the US State Department.
On Monday, March 8, at 10:00 a.m., Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken will host the annual International Women of Courage (IWOC) Awards virtual ceremony to honor a group of extraordinary women from around the world, including an honorary award for seven women leaders and activists from Afghanistan who were assassinated for their dedication to improving the lives of Afghans.

Town gets $130K grant for Scarborough Wastewater Treatment Facility

NARRAGANSETT â The town council this week unanimously voted to accept a $131,000 federal grant that will cover a large portion of the costs related to modifying existing manhole structures and reinforcing drain structures at the Scarborough Wastewater Treatment Facility on Ocean Road.
âThe proposed project is designed to ensure that high-rate stormwater flows do not result in the flooding of the WWTF during extreme weather events,â wrote Narragansett Town Engineer Jon Gerhard to the council. âConstruction ready plans, details, and specifications were prepared for the proposed improvements prior to the grant application.â
The town, through its engineering department, applied for the grant through the pre-disaster mitigation grant program, a program of the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The monies will be used to ensure that stormwater flows in the treatment facilityâs drainage line, ....

Town of Sunman receives IPEP safety grant

RIPLEY COUNTY – The Indiana Public Employers’ Plan, Inc. (IPEP) is excited to announce the Town of Sunman as a recipient of its 2021 safety grant award.
IPEP is proud to partner with Eric Taylor (President Park Board), Cheryl Taylor (Clerk Treasurer), Terry Knueven (Utilities Superintendent), Jason Hoffman (Marshal) among others, along with Bill Vankirk with Voldico Insurance, to maximize opportunities to promote a safe work environment and assist with stretching their risk management resources. The grant funds will be used to purchase safety equipment or safety training programs that will reduce or limit workers compensation exposure.
IPEP was created in 1989 as a risk-sharing pool for public entities, as a response to the need for public employers to find affordable workers’ compensation coverage. IPEP has grown to provide workers’ compensation claims administration for more than 700 public entities including cities, towns, counties and schools. ....
