Cal Lutheran Economists Win Bank of America Research Grant | San Fernando Valley Business Journal

The Bank for America Charitable Foundation has awarded California Lutheran University’s Center for Economic Research and Forecasting, or CERF, a $250,000 research grant to identify the total economic contribution of Hispanics by U.S. state.

This new data will build on CERF s ongoing work on the national-level Latino Gross Domestic Product Report, with the most recent edition published last September.
“The award from the Bank of America is a great testimony to the high quality of work at CERF, and it enables us to contribute to the commitment the university has made as a Hispanic-Serving Institution,” Gerhard Apfelthaler, dean of the School of Management at the Thousand Oaks university, said in a statement. ....

Angola Council to seek more COVID-19 relief money

ANGOLA â Angola wants to make sure it has enough money to continue to help local businesses that have been impacted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, so the Angola Common Council held a public hearing on Monday about applying for another round of grant funding from Indianaâs Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
In order to obtain the grant, Angola has to commit $100,000 in local matching funds. The grant plus the local commitment would go towards the Angola Investment Fundâs COVID-19 relief forgivable loan program, established last year. The program helps qualifying local businesses pay for pre-approved business costs including payroll, thereby saving local jobs. ....

Struggling business owners served some relief

After a long winter of closures, local eateries, breweries and wineries have a new opportunity for relief.
Last week, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an extra $1 million for a new grant program targeting local businesses â specifically county-based restaurants, breweries and wineries. The program is set to offer $10,000 grants to local businesses that are licensed, opened before the pandemic, have a brick-and-mortar location in the county and offer food or drinks
onsite. They also must have complied with county health orders and have seen significant losses due to COVID-19.
Sacrilege Brewing and Kitchen owner Joe Pacini said he will be applying for the grant program. Along with all other local restaurants, the Main Street brewery had to shut down dining in December and move to takeout only. Pacini said, in the best months, heâs seen around 50 percent of his normal business. The worst months produce closer to 10 percent of normal ....
