Bollywood Music Lovers supported by community foundation grant

A GROUP brought together by its love of Bollywood music has grown into a full-blown radio show, thanks to a grant from Dorset Community Foundation.
Bollywood Music Lovers began meeting at the Russell Court Hotel in Bournemouth two years ago to share their enjoyment of the music but, when the 100-strong group was forced to stay at home in the lockdown, chairman Ramesh Lal looked for other ways of staying in touch.
With a community of some 10,000 Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani families in Dorset, he hoped there would be an audience for a radio show.
“It’s a link to our audience’s cultural heritage,” said Mr Lal. ....

B Sharp supports young musicians | Bridport and Lyme Regis News

DISADVANTAGED young musicians are being helped to shape a career in the industry through an ambitious outdoor performance.
Youth music charity B Sharp, which runs music workshops for up to 60 youngsters a week all over the west of the county, has been awarded £8,000 from the Dorset Performing Arts Fund, which is run by the Dorset Community Foundation.
B Sharp chief executive Ruth Cohen said the group will work with 11 talented young people to write and develop the music and art performance at the sea defences on Lyme Regis seafront next spring.
She said: “The Music Futures project is for young people who are seriously interested in music and are thinking about it as a career. ....

Jacob s mum Rachael said the grants had been a vital help for the family getting the Poole Swimming Club youth to galas all over the country as he established himself as a rising star.
“The grants were a huge help to us because it is so expensive when you have to drive to important meetings in Plymouth, Sheffield, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
“It is not just expensive for the swimmer but also for the family because when they are under 18 they have to have an adult with them and the coaches want them there a day before the meeting.
“Then there is the equipment to buy, it all mounts up.” ....
