Lawmakers in the New Hampshire Senate are moving to regulate the way third-party food delivery apps work with local restaurants, citing complaints that the apps have listed some restaurants without their knowledge.
In a vote Tuesday morning, members of the Senate Commerce and Consumer Affairs Committee recommended, 5-0, to require that food delivery apps enter into explicit agreements with the restaurants before adding them to their apps.
The proposed law, Senate Bill 593, would affect popular phone apps like DoorDash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats. It would require express authorization for the food app “to take orders and deliver meals prepared by the food service establishment or retail food store.” ....

Senators Urged To Prioritize Health Care, Public Education In State Budget

Developmental disability advocates, school representatives, health care leaders, and residents took to a public microphone Tuesday to argue for specific priorities in the New Hampshire budget, in a marathon hearing that highlighted broad concerns with the state’s funding models.

During a nine-hour virtual listening session that ended around 10:30 p.m., advocates pressed the Senate Finance Committee for additional funding for mental health services, schools, child care programs, and dental care, and argued against efforts to cut those areas. Speakers also asked senators to remove a House restriction on family care funding and a ban on teaching “divisive topics.” ....

Minutes after Derek Chauvin was pronounced guilty of second-degree and third-degree murder in the killing of George Floyd, New Hampshire elected officials from both parties said more work needs to be done.
“Based on overwhelming evidence, I supported charges being brought against Derek Chauvin from the beginning and I am glad justice has prevailed,” Gov. Chris Sununu quickly announced.
However, the state’s top Republican largely stood alone, as GOP leaders in the State House did not echo his words.
“George Floyd should be alive today,” Sununu added, “and while he will sadly never be able to return to his friends and family, we can appreciate that justice through our legal system has been delivered. I join the people of New Hampshire in praying for George Floyd and his family and hope we can heal as a nation.” ....

New Hampshire restaurants push for tighter regulations on Grubhub, Doordash
Café la Reine didn’t ask for the delivery drivers, but they came by nonetheless.
One by one, workers for Grubhub, a popular mobile app that allows for food delivery orders, showed up at the Manchester restaurant with orders to pick up.
The problem: The café had not entered into an agreement with the app to be listed or partnered. The orders that Grubhub drivers were there to collect had never been communicated to the restaurant itself and assembled in the kitchen.
The result was a mess, owner Alex Horton said Tuesday. ....
