MARQUETTE One person was hospitalized after a structure fire in the city of Marquette Tuesday night.
The Marquette City Fire Department was dispatched to 326 Summit St. around 6:46 p.m. due to reports of a structure fire at the address. Upon arrival at 6:51 p.m., firefighters encountered fire and smoke coming from a detached garage.
Crews had the fire under control within 20 minutes, and the scene was cleared at approximately 8:05 p.m., officials said.
One of the residents at the address, identified as Jacob Thompson, 24, of Marquette, was “severely injured” in the fire, according to a news release from the Marquette Police Department. Thompson was transported to UP Health System – Marquette for treatment of burns to his face, chest and neck areas and was later transported to University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. ....

Angeli to retire after 45 years of service | News, Sports, Jobs

MARQUETTE After 45 years of service to the city of Marquette, Marquette City Manager Mike Angeli has announced his retirement.
Angeli, who has served in his current role as city manager since 2015, informed the Marquette City Commission on Dec. 1 of his intent to retire in the second quarter of 2021. His retirement will be effective June 1.
“I have been employed by the city since 1976 and after much consideration, I believe the time has come for me to move on,” Angeli said in his retirement letter. “This is not an easy decision for me, as I have spent two-thirds of my life working for the city and have taken great pride and ownership in its achievements and success. ....
