The deals have been done with farmers and the shipments of live animals to the Middle East will start from the East London port in the next few weeks. Three employees of the East London Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) have been suspended for “inhumanely slaughtering” a goose, which was all captured on video. The video of staff members slaughtering the injured goose emerged on social media over the weekend.
On Tuesday, 4 May, the National Council of SPCA said the organisation intends on laying charges of animal cruelty.
“It is a sad day in the world of animal welfare when the suffering of an animal has been inflicted by the very people entrusted to protect them,” said NSPCA Executive Director Marcelle Meredith.
