MARTINS FERRY The Belmont County Staying Clean Club is celebrating another year of encouraging local students to stay off drugs.
Club organizers, including Martins Ferry Police Chief John McFarland, are rewarding participating students about 1,200 children in grades 7-12 with free boxed lunches from Chick-fil-A and sweet treats from Jack’s Snacks at their respective schools.
The club’s Facebook page has posted numerous photos of students receiving their treats handed out by McFarland during the past few days. ....

Martins Ferry Man Facing Felony Drug charges

MARTINS FERRY, Ohio – A Martins Ferry man is in custody facing felony drug charges, after an alleged domestic incident, Tuesday.
According to the Martins Ferry Police, officers responded to a disturbance, at a South Zane Highway residence.
The caller claimed that her boyfriend was hitting himself, as she had locked herself in a bedroom, to avoid him.
Authorities stated, a male suspect, identified as 37-year-old David McCracken
(pictured) allegedly appeared to be under the influence of drugs and/0r alcohol.
An investigation of the residence uncovered a backpack McCracken allegedly admitted was his. McCracken reportedly had ran out back and deposed of a backpack before officers arrived. ....

Ferry shooting still under investigation | News, Sports, Jobs

MARTINS FERRY A case of shots being fired in the Hughes Avenue area with one home being struck by bullets still is under investigation by the Martins Ferry Police Department.
At about 2:30 a.m. Feb. 4, officers were dispatched to the area after someone reported hearing gunshots being fired.
Officers arrived on the scene within a minute of getting the call. No one was injured, but bullet holes were found on the exterior of a home located at 924 Hughes Ave.
Shell casings also were found on West Jefferson Street. People saw a man fleeing on foot following the shots being fired, but no one was found. ....
