The commandant of the Iowa Veterans Home was relieved of his duties last week, according to a spokesperson for Gov. Kim Reynolds, who provided no further details.
Commandant Timon Oujiri, who led the nursing facility for Iowa veterans, was relieved of his duties as commandant on Wednesday, Pat Garrett, Reynolds spokesperson, told reporters in an email Monday morning. ....

Wyoming, Mich.–The William Penn men’s bowling team made a strong run at being the best team in the land, but came up a few rounds short as it competed at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships Thursday and Friday.
WPU opened the even with 12 games of qualifying, finishing fifth out of 16 teams with 2,447 pins. Wichita State (Kan.) was the top qualifier with 2,672 pins.
As the #5 seed, the navy and gold met #12 seed Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) in Round 1. William Penn reeled off three wins to start the bout with game scores of 233, 201, 236, and 180, but could not put its opponent away, dropping the next four games (168, 217, 194) and falling to the consolation bracket. ....

Leader of Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown removed

The Governor’s office is confirming that the Commandant at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown has been fired.
A spokesperson for Governor Kim Reynolds office confirmed that Timon Oujiri was removed from his post last Wednesday, May 5th. Division Administrator Penny Cutler-Bermudez is serving as acting commandant.
Oujiri was appointed to IVH in May 2017. There has been no word on what led to Oujiri’s removal and no comment yet from IVH.

Jackie Ingraham, a staple of the Marshalltown biking community, had one word to describe her feelings Saturday afternoon at Riverview Park.
“I’m overwhelmed,” Jackie said, while sitting next to husband Fred. “With the weather, with this turnout, it makes me actually want to cry.”
She was contemplating the reception she and her husband had received from the hundreds of people who attended the 25th edition of the Blessing of the Bikes, a milestone event the Ingrahams could not hold last year due to restrictions placed on large gatherings by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the final year that Fred and Jackie will be leaders in organizing the event, having helped get it underway 26 years ago and then turning it into one of the biggest biking events in the state over time. Despite the windy, cool weather, the Ingrahams were blown away by the amount of people who showed up. ....
