Framed by the anniversary of the murder of George Floyd and set amid the backdrop of the centennial of the Tulsa Race Massacre, Tuesday s Breaking Bread breakfast, organized by the OK Justice Circle, had one focus unity.
The event marked the second of its kind, bringing together leaders from multiple backgrounds for discussions on how to overcome some of society s most difficult problems: racial justice, police reform and building bridges between communities.

Ruby Jones, 74, Sues Oklahoma City Police for Allegedly Breaking Her Arm While Arresting Her Mentally Ill Son

The 74-year-old grandmother had been telling police that her son, 43-year-old Chauncey Jones, is bipolar depressive and did not have a gun when she found herself being forcefully placed in handcuffs.
Ruby Jones, a 74-year-old grandmother, is suing Oklahoma City police for excessive force after accusing them of breaking her arm during an encounter last August. Jones, who is Black, said officers were searching for her mentally ill son without a proper warrant when they violated her rights by handcuffing her, escorting her to a patrol car and breaking her arm in the process.
“I know it was God that spared my life because I would have been dead,” Jones said, addressing community leaders and press at a church last week. “I won’t forget this. The pain, the agony … they pulled [my arm] back and they pulled it all the way up my back.” ....

Family Of Teen Killed By OKC Police Demand For The Bodycam Footage, Answers

OKLAHOMA CITY -
The family and legal team of 15-year-old Stavian Rodriquez met Tuesday at City Hall demanding answers. Rodriquez was shot and killed by police more than two months ago outside an Oklahoma City gas station.
Attorney Rand Eddy said they still need answers and now, they ve filed a lawsuit, requesting police bodycam footage of the shooting.
“We want to see it, we need to see it,” said Eddy.
On November 23, officers responded to a reported armed robbery at a gas station near downtown Oklahoma City. Officers said Rodriguez was a suspect and was shot because he didn t follow commands. However, his family claimed he dropped his gun and did what he was asked. ....
