Attorneys representing the Attorney General’s Office were a no-show.
State police issued the women misdemeanor citations for disorderly conduct as they participated in a demonstration organized by the Michigan Conservative Coalition and dubbed Operation Haircut.
The protest in support of Karl Manke, an Owosso barber who continued operating despite efforts by state officials to shut his barber shop down, featured barbers and stylists offering free haircuts in defiance of Whitmer’s executive orders aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19. The emergency orders closed barbershops, salons and other businesses and were later deemed unconstitutional by the state Supreme Court. ....

More than 400 Michiganders showed up for “free” haircuts, a service Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s administration had deemed “nonessential.”
The hairstylists were protesting Whitmer’s executive orders and supporting Owosso barber Karl Manke, who had his barber license revoked by the state for violating the shutdown order.
Roughly 15 hairstylists were cutting hair at the Capitol that day, yet only seven were criminally prosecuted for ....

On Monday, February 8th 54-A District Court Judge Kristen D. Simmons dismissed all criminal charges filed by the Michigan Attorney General’s office against six hairstylists who participated in Operation Haircut. These six women dared to violate Gov. Whitmer’s coronavirus emergency orders during a protest at the state Capitol last May.
These six hairstylists were represented by the Kallman Legal Group. The following is from a Press Release given to me by their Attorney David Kallman his legal group stated:
Operation Haircut Protest on May 20, 2020, in support of Owosso barber Karl Manke, who was also present at the protest. Approximately 20 hair stylists were cutting hair at the Capitol that day, yet only seven were criminally prosecuted. Kallman Legal Group represented six of the protestors. Judge dismisses charges against protesting Michigan hair stylists

Lansing A Lansing District Court judge has dismissed charges against six hairstylists who cut hair on the Capitol lawn in May as part of a protest against stay-home orders that barred salons and barbershops from opening.
More than 20 hair stylists cut hair during the rally on the Capitol lawn in part to support 77-year-old Owosso barber Karl Manke, who reopened his business despite threats from state and local health departments. Operation Haircut was organized by the Michigan Conservative Coalition and was one of several rallies protesting the governor s stay-home orders last spring and summer.
Charges against Manke were dismissed in October days after the Michigan Supreme Court ruled one of the laws underpinning Gov. Gretchen Whitmer s executive orders was an unconstitutional delegation of power. ....
