Cheltenham man accused of possessing child pornography


CHELTENHAM — A Cheltenham man is facing child pornography charges after authorities allegedly discovered hundreds of images of such content on his cell phone.
Harley R. Strauss, 46, of the unit block of South Easton Road, was arraigned before District Court Judge Elizabeth McHugh Casey on 100 counts of possessing child pornography and 100 counts of criminal use of a communication facility in connection with alleged incidents that occurred between March and April.
Strauss was released on $20,000 unsecured bail to await his preliminary hearing on the charges on May 13 before District Court Judge Christopher J. Cerski.

Historical murder play featuring judges, lawyers returns to Bastrop Opera House


For the past eight years, with the exception of last year, local judges and lawyers have performed a play centered around a real-life crime event that occurred in Bastrop County at the turn of the 20th century.
The plays, which are historically-accurate portrayals of murders and trials in the county, help fund the Bastrop County Bar Association’s Bobby Jenkins Scholarships, which assist high school students in the county with paying for college.
While the 2020 edition of the play was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the seventh edition of the play is set for later this month as live theater has returned with the reopening of the Bastrop Opera House in September.  ....

Accused drug dealer facing trial after arrest in Cheltenham with pound of methamphetamine


NORRISTOWN — A Philadelphia man who was apprehended in Cheltenham Township in January after a search of his car revealed a pound of crystal methamphetamine packaged for sale was ordered to stand trial in Montgomery County Court on drug and weapons charges.
Larry Lamar “Gunna” Hudson, 27, of the 200 block of Sparks Street, waived his preliminary hearing before District Court Judge Christopher J. Cerski on charges of possession with intent to deliver controlled substances, possession of a controlled substance, possession of prohibited firearms and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with alleged incidents that occurred between November 2020 and Jan. 12, 2021.
Hudson, who remains in the county jail in lieu of $500,000 cash bail, faces a formal arraignment hearing on the charges in county court on May 12 before Judge William R. Carpenter. ....
