Construction begins on the new child care centre in Castlegar

After being announced on March 13th, construction has started on the new child care centre at the Castlegar and District Community Complex (CDCC).
The centre is being built on the CDCC grounds and is being complete through a partnership between the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK), the Castlegar and District Recreation Commission (CDRC), and the Kootenay Family Place (KFP).
The RDCK said the child care centre will provide 30 new child care spaces along with 20 licensed pre-school and after-school spaces. When not in use for child care, the CDCC will have access to the building for school camps and other programs. ....

New child care centre to open at the Castlegar and District Community Complex

A new child care facility to be built on the grounds of the Castlegar and District Community Complex (CDCC) will provide 30 new child care spaces for local families. The project is being delivered through a partnership with Kootenay Family Place (KFP) and the Regional District of Central Kootenay’s (RDCK) Castlegar and District Recreation Commission (CDRC). The new centre is expected to open in September 2021.
The RDCK, CDRC and KFP, with funding support from Columbia Basin Trust (CBT), successfully applied to the Province’s Childcare BC New Spaces Fund to support the new, licensed spaces in Castlegar. ....

To The Editor:
On January 22nd, the RDCK issued a FAQ document regarding the decision made by the Nelson & District Recreation Commission on January 14th to close the Civic Arena early.
Within the document, it states that the decision was made by the Provincial Health Officer to suspend all games, tournaments and adult ice use. It goes on to say that, “when this revenue is not generated from user fees the result is an increase in taxation used to cover operations.”
The RDCK states that the result is an increase in taxation. However, the Recreation Commission was reminded that the RDCK received a $760,000 COVID Safe Restart Grant and the City of Nelson received $2.6 million in November 2020. ....
