Zambia : Zambia has laid strong foundation for prosperity -Bwalya

Zambia’s High Commissioner to Australia with extra accreditation to New Zealand Frank Bwalya says the Government has laid a strong foundation for Zambia’s prosperity through the massive infrastructure it has built in various sectors of the economy.
Mr Bwalya made the remarks when the Divisional Manager, for Middle East and Africa at New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Stuart Horne paid a courtesy call on him at the Mission in Canberra.
He said the development of infrastructure by the Government provided a solid Launch pad for economic recovery and its offshoots of job creation, better living standards for all people as well as the lower taxes that a strong economy delivers. ....

Directors face tough decisions as RDCK talks budget

The opening session of the budget deliberations – which will go on for the next two months – brought the major issues to the fore and set general directions for the discussion.
The Regional District of Central Kootenay’s board of directors have had their first glimpse of this year’s budget – along with a warning that choppy financial waters may be ahead.
“We don’t know if the last quarter of 2021 will look anywhere near the first quarter of 2020, and being able to predict that is easily the most difficult task we’ve got with respect to budgeting,” RDCK Chief Administrative Officer Stuart Horn told directors at a special budget meeting January 22. ....

On January 22nd, the RDCK issued a FAQ document regarding the decision made by the Nelson & District Recreation Commission on January 14th to close the Civic Arena early.
Within the document, it states that the decision was made by the Provincial Health Officer to suspend all games, tournaments and adult ice use. It goes on to say that, “when this revenue is not generated from user fees the result is an increase in taxation used to cover operations.”
The RDCK states that the result is an increase in taxation. However, the Recreation Commission was reminded that the RDCK received a $760,000 COVID Safe Restart Grant and the City of Nelson received $2.6 million in November 2020. ....
