Rochester councilor Doug Lachance urged to resign amid sex abuse probe


ROCHESTER A growing number of elected officials and community leaders from throughout the area and state are signing a formal statement that calls for Rochester City Councilor Doug Lachance to resign in light of sexual abuse allegations made against him.
Somersworth City Councilor Crystal Paradis created the statement, which she said isn’t a petition, in response to a Foster’s Daily Democrat special report in which two adult men allege Lachance used his power as mayor roughly 20 years ago to groom and sexually abuse them when they were teens.
Should Lachance not resign, Rochester City Councilor Jeremy Hutchinson said he will motion for City Council to remove Lachance from office. He also said he will formally call on Rochester Mayor Caroline McCarley to schedule a special council meeting, well before the next regularly scheduled full council session on April 20, for councilors to conduct that removal vote. ....

N.H. Businesses Oppose Bill To Ban Teaching About Systemic Racism, Sexism

Nearly 80 New Hampshire businesses and organizations have added their voices in opposition to a bill in the Legislature that would prevent public schools, organizations and state contractors from teaching about systemic racism.
House Bill 544 would prohibit discussing ideas that New Hampshire or the United States is fundamentally racist or sexist, that individuals are inherently oppressive due to their race or sex, that individuals should feel discomfort or guilt on account of their race or sex, that meritocracy and “hard work ethic” is inherently oppressive, and or any other form of race or sex “stereotyping” or “scapegoating.” HB 544 was approved in 10-9 vote by the House Executive Departments and Administration Committee and is scheduled to be debated later this week when the full House meets for a three-day session at in indoor sports complex in Bed ....
