DeRamos gives back to Glendale community


In 2001, John DeRamos and his wife, Ranetta, built their first house in Glendale. Since then, they have called the small, quaint town home and have tried to give back to their community.
“What is special about Glen­dale is the people,” DeRamos said. “We had great neighbors and our children had great friends there also. It was a blessing.”
DeRamos has been a member of the Glendale Lions Club for the past three years. During his first year, he served as secretary and park committee chairman. For the past two years, he served as president of the club.
In addition to hosting community events, the Glendale Lions Club maintains Glendale Park, contributes money to maintain street lights in the community and has helped provide sidewalks along the town’s streets. Recently, the United States Postal Service signed a 20-year lease with the club to install a new post office on a half-acre parcel of land adjacent to Glendale Park. ....

ECTC, Abound partner for military education


Elizabethtown Comm­unity and Technical College’s Military Edu­cation Association, sponsored by Abound Credit Union, is a new opportunity to support the college’s nearly 400 military and veteran students. 
Launched in 2020, Abound has donated around $3,600 through the association and has goals for expanding the financial support available for military and veteran students through this partnership in 2021 and beyond, according to a news release.
MEA will fill gaps in existing aid programs and provide the college with flexibility by paying for textbooks, instructional supplies and career readiness training along with other tailored services and programs.

Central Kentucky Community Foundation welcomes new board members


Central Kentucky Community Foundation, the philanthropic focal point of the region serving Breckinridge, Grayson, Hardin, Hart, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson and Washington counties, recently welcomed four new members to its board of directors.
Drew Ballard, John Beavin, Ed Durnil and Greg Lee were recently were installed as members at a CKCF board meeting.
CKCF Board Chairman Lindsey Alicna said the four newest members were selected because they are community leaders and champions who elevate philanthropy in the region.
• Drew Ballard is the vice-president and commercial loan officer with Wilson & Muir Bank and prior to his current position, he worked at Abound Credit Union, formerly Fort Knox Credit Union, for seven years. He is a graduate of Bardstown High School and the University of Louisville’s College of Business and Public Administration. ....
