Jackson residents with past due water bills who qualify may get some relief through a program aimed at catching up on past due bills and potential debt forgiveness.
Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba on Monday detailed the plan, which will allow the city to establish payment plans providing customers with additional time to make payments on their water bills. It will go into effect July 19.
Lumumba said the program applies to low income residents, those with water issues related to faulty equipment and residents impacted by weather events. ....

It s an ill wind that blows no good. This ancient saying still holds. The Wall Street Journal reported savvy investors profited from the blast of Arctic air that caused the devastating Texas Valentine s Day freeze. They bet more wind power had made the Texas electric grid less reliable.
So they invested in more reliable natural gas power plants and planned for bad weather. Their plants generated power during the freeze when others didn t. Electricity is very dear - when there s not enough to go around with 10 million customers on rolling blackouts for days. It was a sellers market. It could have been worse for buyers. Texas was minutes away from massive grid failure, a dark start, and weeks without electricity. ....

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - This is the second year that Gov. Tate Reeves has not signed a bill that would help the city of Jackson better address uncollected water debt.
But this time, he didnât veto it.
H.B. 359 is slated to become law on April 18, but without the governorâs signature, according to the Mississippi Legislatureâs website.
According to the rules of the Senate, a bill will become law if the governor does not veto the measure in the first five days of receiving it during the session or 15 days after the session adjourns, even if he does not sign it. ....
