A Middlesex County man has been charged with the gunpoint carjacking of a man early Thursday about six blocks from the Rutgers University campus in New Brunswick.
Bryan Gomez, 30, of New Brunswick, was arrested about 2:40 p.m. Friday in the area of Sandford and Comstock Streets, city police said in a statement.
Gomez is charged with carjacking, terroristic threats and weapons offenses. He was held in the Middlesex County Jail pending a court hearing, New Brunswick police said.
Gomez also allegedly stole items from the man before driving off, police said. The stolen vehicle was found several hours later in another part of New Brunswick, investigators said. ....

A Paterson man has filed a civil lawsuit that accuses Woodbridge police of extreme racial profiling in wrongly arresting him based solely on facial recognition software that has since been flagged by the state attorney general.
According to the lawsuit filed in Superior Court in Passaic County, 33-year-old Najeer Parks, says that he was held for more than a week in Middlesex County jail in early 2019 after being mistaken for a shoplifter who had driven from a hotel in Woodbridge and struck a police car in the process. ....

When Nijeer Parks walked out of a New Jersey prison in 2016, he returned to his family in Paterson and told them he was done messing up his life.
Twice convicted for selling drugs, Parks spent six years behind bars and said he decided after his release to earn an honest living. He found a job as a clerk at the local PriceRite, began saving money and made plans to marry his fiancé. ....
