In a historic move, Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian announced on Monday, March 1, that for the first time in more than 50 years, the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office [MSO] has assumed responsibility for direct supervision of incarcerated women.
After months of planning and design, the MSO has established a new pre-release center at the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction to serve sentenced females preparing for reentry into their communities and homes.
Initiatives at the center will place a primary focus on family reunification.
The center opened Monday with 11 individuals who were transferred from the Massachusetts Department of Correction [DOC] to the custody of the MSO. ....

COVID-19 Vaccinations Begin at Middlesex Jail and House of Correction – Everett Independent

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) on Jan. 21 began vaccinating staff and incarcerated individuals in accordance with the timeline established by the Baker-Polito Administration and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH).
Those living and working in congregate settings (including jails and shelters) have been identified as the fourth priority group within Phase One of the Commonwealth’s COVID-19 vaccination plan.
By the end of Jan. 21, approximately 130 total staff members and incarcerated individuals will have received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine. Vaccinations will resume on Friday morning.
“Today marks a critical milestone in our ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it is important to note it is neither our first nor our last step,” said Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Employees of the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office and volunteers from the community recently joined forces to wrap presents for children with loved ones currently incarcerated at the Middlesex Jail and House of Correction.
