As unusual winter weather continues to sweep southern states, Dow, Inc. has had to shut down some of its operations along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
While headquartered here in Midland, the major material science company has several manufacturing sites in Texas and Louisiana along the southern coast of the United States, which are currently experiencing severe winter weather, including ice and freezing temperatures. The winter storms have caused power outages to millions of households, forcing some Texas residents to sleep in their vehicles to stay warm. ....

The volunteers and Board of Directors of the Mighty Mitt Parkinson’s Movement Center (MMPMC) are pleased to announce it has received a $27,000 grant from the Midland Community Foundation’s Midland County COVID-19 Response/Disaster Relief Fund. The grant will help cover the operational cost of programs and resources serving those with Parkinson’s.
“Many of our clients experiencing care disruption and economic impacts due to COVID-19, and we have transitioned what we can to a virtual setting, providing supplies and equipment for in home care,” said Mighty Mitt President and CEO Joan Billingsley. “The grant from the Midland Community Foundation will allow our programs to continue to serve one of our most vulnerable community members during this critical time.” ....

Oil rallied to a 13-month high as cold weather in Texas disrupted flows from America’s largest shale patch, exposing the fragility of global supplies amid sharp cutbacks by OPEC and its allies.
U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures surged as much as 2.5% and rose above $60 a barrel for the first time since January last year. Brent crude in London, meanwhile, rose above $63. Permian oil production has fallen by as much as 1 million barrels a day as temperatures fall to minus 1 Fahrenheit (minus 18 degrees Celsius) in Midland, Texas, the de facto capital of U.S. shale production, according to the National Weather Service Midland. ....
