If all goes well, traffic jams with cars might be a thing of the past in Bengaluru. The
Directorate of Urban Land Transport (
DULT) has made public the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (
CMP) of Bengaluru nearly five months after it was approved by the state government. Construction of cycle tracks has been given a lot of prominence in the 242-page document, which also makes a mention of elevated corridors despite strong opposition by citizen groups.
In the final CMP, which is uploaded on DULT s
official website, 22 projects have been proposed in Phase I at a total investment of Rs 38,946 crore. Officials have included two new proposals in the revised document. They are: construction of 50 km cycle track at a cost of Rs 75 crore and multi-modal mobility fare system at a cost of Rs 25 crore. KOCHI: To create a cycling-friendly environment in Kochi, the Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML) is developing cycle lanes throughout the smart roads. The cycle tracks are aimed at encouraging people to use the clean and healthy mode of transport in daily life, a statement from CSML said.
The agency has decided to elevate six arterial roads in the city to the status if smart roads. They include Abraham Madamakkal Road, Banerjee Road, Shanmugham Road, Park Avenue Road, Durbar Hall Road and South Railway Station Road. The cycle lanes are being built on these roads as part of the ‘India Cycles 4 Change Challenge’ with the support of the German development agency, GIZ.
