Penn State receives gold-level Bicycle Friendly University award

The League of American Bicyclists named Penn State a gold-level Bicycle Friendly University in recognition of the universities promotion of safe and accessible bicycling on campus, according to Penn State News.
The Bicycle Friendly University program includes 212 colleges and universities according to Penn State News. The program also awards certifications to communities and businesses as well.
The Centre region was named silver-level bicycle-friendly in December of 2020.
According to Penn StateÂ Transportation Services Sustainable Transportation Program Coordinator Cecily Zhu, the university originally received a bronze designation in 2012.
This summer, Penn State is opening a bike workshop space in the West Parking Deck. The university also has covered bike parking, an interactive bike map, bike light giveaways and bike safety workshops, according to Penn State News. ....

URB-E Gets $5M For Urban Delivery Network

Los Angeles-based
URB-E, a startup developing a last mile urban delivery network based on containers and bicycles, has raised $5M in a Series A funding round, the company said today. According to the company, the funding was led by UBS Group. URB-E says it is developing a containerized delivery network in urban areas, focused on small container systems which are rolled on and off into parking spaces, and where the last mile is delivered via bicycle. The company said it already has over 1,800 containers moving over 100,000 packages in New York City. As part of the funding, the company said it has appointed Charles Jolley as its new CEO Jolley is an investor in URB-E, and previously sold two companies Ozlo and Strobe to Facebook. He also spent time at Facebook and Apple. ....

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - An Evansville man is dead after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle in Florida.
According to WJXT, Doctor Troy Manz was part of a bicycle adventure race in St. Johns County when he was struck.
Manz was a Captain in the United States Air Force Medical Service. According to the IU School of Medicine, Dr. Manz was a first-year resident in Internal Medicine Residency Program. ....
