Grantham OKs new fire truck, police cruiser at Town Meeting Modified: 5/15/2021 2:26:24 PM GRANTHAM Spending requests for road improvements, a fire truck and police cruiser sailed through at Town Meeting on Saturday. Grantham residents voted, 105-22, to back a plan to borrow $500,000 for safety and drainage improvements to Miller Pond Road. And a plan to spend $675,000 for a new fire truck passed, 101-11. The town would borrow $500,000 and use $175,000 from the fire apparatus capital reserve fund for the balance. Both measures easily surpassed the 60% threshold required for borrowing requests. The $1.5 million general fund budget, $926,000 public safety budget and $931,000 public works budget all passed by unanimous voice vote. ....

The last time people who live at White Oak Pond near Waymart were able to be on the water was in 2015. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission drained White Oak and three other ponds in Wayne County because the dams were found to be hazardous. If water broke through, it could cause damage downstream. ....
Presidential Mountain Resort to expand in Bethlehem March 10, 2021BETHLEHEM Development plans have changed for the Presidential Mountain Resort in Bethlehem. Rather than constructing a Hilton Hotel on the north side of Route 302 as initially planned, owner Yitz Rudich intends to add more freestanding cabins this spring. David Eckman of Eckman Engineering told Planning Board officials last week that the hotel was no longer deemed financially viable. He presented informal, conceptual plans for an additional six to twelve cabin units to complement the existing destination resort across the street. According to documents filed at the Bethlehem Town Hall, Eckman plans to utilize the existing parking, entrances and landscaping on the 42-acre lot for the new development. While Rudich has yet to determine the number of units to be installed, each 685 square-foot cabin would measure approximately 24 by 28 feet, with two bedrooms and a loft area.
