HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. (WMC) - This 5 Star Story celebrating Black History shines a light on the oldest Historically Black College and University (HBCU) associated with the United Methodist Church, and the second oldest private college in Mississippi.
We’re talking Rust College, where last summer, the school’s 12th president and the first woman was installed to lead the institution into the future.
The college is nestled in the idyllic Marshall County seat of Holly Springs, Mississippi which is 55 miles south of Memphis. It was founded in1866 by the Freedman’s Aid Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, just one year after slavery was abolished. ....

Millington schools go virtual the first week of January

MILLINGTON, Tenn. Millington Municipal Schools has announced that second semester classes will start virtually on January 4.
The district says changes were made as the Shelby County Health Department announced concerns of an uptick in COVID-19 cases over the holiday season.
Teachers and principals will send out communication expectations and specific school program updates to students.
The classes will be virtual through January 8.
A spokesperson with school district says grab and go meals will be available each day. ....

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (WMC) - Millington Municipal Schools has made some changes to the upcoming second semester.
Although the semester will begin on January 4, 2021, all MMSD students will attend school virtually until January 8, 2021. This decision was made after a spike in COVID-19 cases during the holiday season.
Teachers and principals will send out updates on meetings and school programs.
Here’s a quick summary of the updates.
Students will attend school virtually beginning 1/4/2021 through 1/8/2021.
Grab and Go Meals will be available for pickup each day. ....
