Harriet and Jerry Shenkman were finally able to be together in the same room Wednesday at The Bristal at White Plains.
It s been quite an experience, and not something I d ever imagine in my lifetime, Harriet said.
Overcoming the dual challenge of a pandemic and cognitive decline, Jerry has spent the last three years battling Alzheimer s disease.
Although the debilitating disease has robbed most of the 80-year-old s memories forged during 58 years of marriage, he hasn t forgotten his wife. ....

COVID NY Update: New York faces coronavirus vaccine shortage as demand continues to outpace supply

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) The Javits Center is no longer taking appointments as the state is starting week six of their vaccination process.
It opened early Sunday morning, but then around 8 a.m. the Javits Center announced they are not taking any more appointments until further notice, along with several other state-run sites.
Other sites that are no longer taking appointments include Jones Beach - Field 3, State Fair Expo Center, SUNY Albany, Westchester County Center, SUNY Stony Brook University Innovation and Discovery Center, Aqueduct Racetrack - Racing Hall, SUNY Binghampton, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, University at Buffalo South Campus and Rochester Dome Arena. ....

COVID Long Island: Roslyn teen Caroline Faber creates crafts program for kids in homeless shelters

Roslyn resident Caroline Faber, 14, started an arts and crafts program for kids in homeless shelters.
The project this week was a kaleidoscope, a paper towel roll, she said. I taught them to put it together and they really liked that.
Faber quickly learned that her students didn t have the necessary supplies not even scissors or glue so her mom shared an Amazon wish list.
Everyone kept sending supplies boxes and boxes waiting at our door front, mother Nicole Faber said. The Amazon list, it really was wonderful.
Caroline curates each box with enough supplies for a month of projects and ships them to the shelters in Westchester and Queens and even in the Carolinas. ....

Unauthorized vaccine scheduling link leads to canceled appointments on Long Island

SUFFOLK COUNTY, Long Island (WABC) New Yorkers who thought they had made an appointment for a COVID vaccine at Stony Brook University Hospital were shocked to learn their appointments had been suddenly canceled, apparently do to a mistakenly published link.
The general counsel for the Office of Information Technology Services said the unauthorized scheduling link was published this week.
The governor s office said it was a legitimate, internal link that was erroneously shared to the public and put out on social media, so people who had the link had unfair advantage that others didn t.
The link not only affected residents on Long Island, but across New York State. ....
