Member of federal COVID-19 task force weighs in on the future of re-opening

To be able to reopen businesses fully, Andy Slavitt from President Joe Biden s COVID-19 task force says businesses need to do their part, too. They can play a role in reopening by urging employees and customers to wear their masks and also encouraging employees to get vaccinated.
There s something that could feel coercive about hey we re going to pay you to do this vs. hey, you know what we know you have to be away from work and we know you might have a headache for a couple hours so it makes sense for us if we re going to ask you to do this to give you some incentive, whether it s paid time off or whatever is appropriate for a particular employer, Slavitt said. ....

Fayetteville bar owner pleads with state to reconsider restrictions amid curfew extension

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) For Cumberland County bar owner Brian Thompson, this week s news regarding
How much longer can you last? Probably, three to four months, Thompson said.
Thompson s been the owner of Izzy s Sports Bar, near Ramsey Street and I-295, since 2017. He says the current restrictions on the bar industry continue to put him in a financial hole. It s very difficult. I mean, our revenue is off by 80 percent.
On a regular Friday, pre-pandemic, Thompson says they see an average of 2,500 customers; now, that number sits at around 600. Izzy s Sports Bar is like thousands of other bars across the state that can only offer outdoor seating. ....

It s been tricky for everyone, she said. We re all grasping and trying to figure out how not necessarily to do this successfully but to kind of get through it in a somewhat healthy way.

In high school students she s treated, she s noted an uptick in anxiety, depression as well as suicidal thoughts. She said younger kids are acting out more, things are especially tough for kids with special needs. ....
