ConocoPhillips confirms chartered rig has sunk off Miri

KUCHING (Bernama): Multinational oil and gas exploration company ConocoPhilips Sarawak Ltd has confirmed that the NAGA 7 jack-up drilling rig they chartered had listed on Monday (May 3) near Miri, about 840km north from here.
It said the incident took place at about 2.45pm when the rig was being positioned at Salam-3, about 260km off Miri and their Emergency Response Team had been mobilised soon after all the personnel were ordered to evacuate.
We confirm that all people on board (the rig) have been evacuated with no known injuries. The majority of the crew have returned to Miri, except those remaining near the location to respond to the incident,” it said in a statement. ....

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has dispatched humanitarian aid shipments to Sudan.
Aboard aircraft of the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF), 62 tonnes of relief items were delivered under the Ethiopian Refugee Relief, Emergency Medical System Enhancement, and COVID-19 Control projects.

Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and the Qatari Emiri Corps of Engineers (QECE) signed a memorandum of understanding in the presence of Dr. Eng. Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi, President of the Public Works Authority, and H E Major General (Eng) Essa bin Ali Al Kubaisi, Commander of the Qatar Emiri Corps of Engineers.
The MoU aims to enhance cooperation between the two entities, and benefit from resources through exchange of expertise, engineering and technical references for implementing projects in several areas.
The MoU specifies cooperation between Ashghal and QECE to develop human resources through conduction of training programs, events, discussion forums, and joint workshops quarterly. ....

Covid-19: Over 400 students infected in Miri, schools advised to close for 14 days

KUCHING: More than 400 students in Miri have been infected with Covid-19, leading to a recommendation for schools to be closed for 14 days.
The Miri divisional disaster management committee said 13% of its cumulative 3,253 positive cases were of school-going age.
As medical facilities at Miri Hospital and quarantine and treatment centre are almost reaching full capacity, the committee decided that schools in Miri should be temporarily closed for face-to-face teaching for 14 days.
They should revert to teaching and learning at home as soon as possible to curb the spread of the virus in schools.
The situation will be reviewed after 14 days, said minister-in-charge Datuk Lee Kim Shin in a statement on Sunday (April 18). ....
