Bucks County voters to decide contested primaries for sheriff, controller, prothonotary


Division in Bucks County s Democratic and Republican parties will be on display as voters head to the polls for the May 18 primary election.
In the race for controller an office that oversees the county s finances Republicans Pamela A. Van Blunk, an attorney, and former county commissioner Andrew L. Warren are vying for the nomination to challenge incumbent Democrat Neale Dougherty, who is unopposed in his primary.
For prothonotary, the principal clerk of the court, Republicans Coleen Christian and Jennifer L. Hannigan will face off, each looking to take on the incumbent Judi Reiss, a Democrat who also is unopposed.
In the primary race for sheriff, county Democrats will have a choice between retired Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Mark E. Lomax and incumbent Sheriff Milt Warrell. Fred Harran, Bensalem s director of public safety, is unopposed in the Republican primary.  ....

DOYLESTOWN, PA Tuesday, May 18, is Primary Election Day across Pennsylvania, and a number of local races will appear on the ballot.
Democratic voters in Doylestown Borough will decide the party nomination for mayor, and given that there are no Republican candidates on the ballot, the winner of the primary will likely go on to win the general election, barring a successful write-in campaign. The three candidates are Noni West, who serves on Doylestown Borough Council; Judith Fraivillig, an educator; and Larissa Lolly Hopwood, a musician and activist. Incumbent Mayor Ron Strouse is not seeking a third term. ....

Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal s office has resumed sales of properties by virtual auction, and City Council members have questions.
After a year’s hiatus due to the pandemic, the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office has resumed sales of properties that were foreclosed-on, moving from in-person auctions conducted in a rented West Philadelphia conference room to an online vendor named Bid4Assets, based in Silver Springs, Md.
Sheriff Rochelle Bilal says the auctions are safe, convenient and cost-effective, which will benefit the sellers property owners who couldn’t keep up with tax payments or their mortgages. ....

DOYLESTOWN, PA A Philadelphia man is accused of breaching security at the Bucks County Justice Center on Wednesday and injuring four deputies who tried to detain him after he failed to respond to verbal commands, according to charging documents.
Shortly after 10 a.m., 43-year-old Jeffrey Dingle walked into the front entrance of the main floor of the Justice Center at 100 N. Main St, Doylestown, and proceeded to breach the security area and walk briskly toward the stair tower, ignoring commands from a deputy sheriff, authorities said. ....
