New IT rules to regulate social media platforms, OTT released


What do the new rules say?
IT Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said during a press conference that social media platforms must remove content that depicts an individual in a sexual act or conduct or any form of nudity is being displayed on the platform within 24 hours.
With these new rules, India is looking to regulate some of the questionable content that is being posted on these social media platforms, a practice that is also being followed by other big nations.

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government is in the process of finalising rules that will bring greater oversight for social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, and may also bring digital media platforms into a regulatory net by establishing a grievance redressal mechanism.
The final text of these proposed regulations, which will be in the form of changes to parts of the Information Technology Rules, 2011 that govern intermediaries, is still not set in stone, one government official told ....
