Volunteers sought to place flags before Memorial Day
The Central Kentucky Veterans Committee is looking for volunteers to help place flags and honor veterans this Memorial Day.
The organization plans to place flags at the gravesites of 17,000 veterans buried at the Lexington Cemetery and at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Army veteran Denny Hart told WKYT-TV.
Along with helping to place flags, volunteers will be asked to read inscriptions on each headstone and take a moment to honor each one.
âI want them all to know weâre not just putting flags in the ground, we are remembering veterans who have passed away,â Hart said. ....

Army veteran Denny Hart said that the organization plans to place flags at the gravesites of 17,000 veterans buried at the Lexington Cemetery and at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville.

Jimmy Dan Large (Jim), 89 years old, passed away Wednesday, April 14. 2021 at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, Wilmore, Kentucky. He was born on September 14, 1931 in Ft. Payne, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Large, and mother, Lena Large, of Ft. Payne, Alabama and by his stepson, Daniel Walker of Lexington, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Large, Lexington, Kentucky; two sons, Michael Large and Jeffrey Large of Birmingham, Alabama; two stepchildren, Henry Walker (Laura) and Angie Allen (Mike) of Lexington, Kentucky, 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, one brother, Kenneth Large, Ft. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The former president and CEO of Churchill Downs who served from 1970-1984 has died, according to a release.
Albert Lynn Stone died Monday in Lexington. He was 95 years old.
Stone first started his career in professional baseball after serving in the US Coast Guard during World War II. Due in part to a player injury, he then began management of the Braves organization, which was then in Boston. ....
