In 1910 – on the way to the waterfront mills in Edmonds
Nothing depicts the early days of the town of Edmonds more than timber. It was what brought many New England and Eastern people here; and also, the farmers from the Midwest. On the East Coast, they had pretty much depleted their own forests, and in the Midwest, the farmers were just plain worn out from fighting the weather, mainly in the form of dust storms and droughts.

To me, this photo is one of the best reminders of early day Edmonds, and the richness of the timber. And, if you enjoy eating at Chanterelle’s Hometown Bistro between Third and Fourth on Main Street, you should recognize it as it looked in 1910 the building is on the right in this photo. It really hasn’t changed that much. The building on the left is the former State Bank of Edmonds, and the office of C. T. Roscoe ....

It’s been four months since the new Mukilteo ferry terminal opened to the public, but it opened without some of the bells and whistles. Those features will be going in over the next week.
Work started Wednesday to punch through the new road that will provide direct access from Highway 525 to the terminal. Riders have been using a temporary road to drive the extra third of a mile to the loading area. The new road goes through the old terminal area. ....

When vegetable farmer Shay Myers needs to weed 30 acres of organic onions, he’s typically hired a crew of around 30 people for a day of work that can be tedious, including sometimes using pocket knives to carve away weeds around the onions. This season, he hopes to use two robots instead.
Myers is an early user of a Seattle-based robotics company’s “autonomous weeder,” a tractor-sized machine that uses lasers to kill weeds.
The first sight of the machine in a field of crops “was like science fiction,” said Myers, who grows hundreds of acres of onions, asparagus, sweet potatoes and other vegetables in Idaho and Oregon. He expects the machines “should pay for themselves in two or three years.” ....
