Ohio woman remembers late father | News, Sports, Jobs

At 83 years old, Gerald Hobson still managed to work full time as a security guard in the lobby of a short-term care facility near Cleveland.
Then came COVID-19, a new respiratory disease first identified in Wuhan, China in late 2019. It quickly depleted Hobson’s systems of oxygen, requiring hospitalization, intubation, and ventilation.
He died May 23, 2020 at TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Twp., Ohio. The Mayfield native and Korean War veteran, known to be cheerful and quick to laughter, was gone.
“There are no words. It was like two weeks of solid hell,” said his daughter, Valerie Leonard, of her father’s time in the hospital. ....

Lake Health receives COVID-19 vaccine, doses being administered to front-line workers


The first employee vaccinated was Connie Woodring, a registered nurse at TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township.
Woodring said she was excited to get the vaccine.

Lake Health this week received 500 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccination.

“Since I work on the front lines, I don’t want to spread COVID-19 to anyone,” she added. “I haven’t seen my grandkids in a while, so I will feel safer to do so once I have it.”
The second person to receive the vaccine was Dr. David Hutt, infectious disease specialist at Lake Health.
“I am (also) excited to roll up my sleeve and get the vaccine,” Hutt said. “I have been looking forward to this day.” ....

Woman stranded at Grand River shoreline in Painesville; agencies team up for rescue


Several area agencies worked together Dec. 12 to rescue a woman stranded at the Grand River shoreline in Painesville. 
Around 12:50 p.m. that day, Lake County’s central communications dispatch center received a call from a man who heard cries for help from the river in the area of Painesville Recreation Park, according to Lake County Sheriff Frank Leonbruno. 
Painesville police were dispatched to the high cliff area above the river to search. Meanwhile, sheriff’s deputies came across the old Casement Club golf course on the east side of the river through heavy brush to assist, Leonbruno said. 
They were able to locate a 26-year-old woman who had fallen from the cliff area (about 75 feet) the night before and was stranded at the shoreline and surrounded by fast-moving water, according to Leonbruno.  ....
