Apple boss Tim Cook was paid a US$10.7m (NZ$14.65m) annual bonus last year, 40 per cent more than in 2019 as the iPhone-maker cemented its position as one of the pandemic s biggest winners.
The chief executive also earned a salary of US$3m - unchanged from previous years - and was granted control of US$281.9m of stock under a long-term bonus scheme.
He now has a fortune of around US$1.02bn according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. ....

There were more jobs on offer in India in December 2020 compared to the previous month, data from two studies has shown.
Both the Monster Employment Index and Naukri Job Speak report saw an uptick in hiring pace in December lead by sectors like healthcare and life sciences and especially in Tier 2 cities. Jobs in the the travel and tourism sector continue to reel under the impact of the Coronavirus lockdown. ....

Superior Court Judge Invalidates SD City Employee Pension Reform Prop (Prop B-2012)

A San Diego Superior Court Judge ruled Tuesday to invalidate a 2012 proposition (Prop B) that replaced most city employees pensions with 401k retirement plans, according to the mayor s office.
City police officers were excluded from the pension reform.
In August of 2018, the state Supreme Court rejected Prop B, ruling former San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders illegally bypassed city employee unions before placing the proposition before voters.

Maryland Court Reverses Finding on Poultry Farm Employment in Favor of Tyson Farms Inc.

For those who remember back in 2019, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals found that a poultry farm manager was a joint employee of both the poultry farm owner and the poultry company, Tyson Farms Inc.
Tyson appealed that decision to the Court of Appeals of Maryland. The Court of Appeals recently reversed the lower courtâs decision, finding that the circuit court correctly submitted to the jury the question of the farm manager being a joint employee of the poultry farm and Tyson. The evidence on the farm manager being a joint employee was susceptible to differing reasonable inferences.

Federal agency says employers can mandate COVID-19 vaccine

Employers can legally bar workers who decline the COVID-19 vaccine from returning to work under certain conditions, according to guidelines recently issued by a federal agency.
The decision from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission opens the door for private employers to mandate vaccinations. The matter is murkier for employees covered by a union and public sector employees, who have additional rights that must be addressed, three attorneys who specialize in labor law said.
The guidelines, issued on Dec. 16, were eagerly awaited by employers nationwide, who are grappling with the pros and cons of essentially taking away an employeeâs right to make personal choices regarding a health care-related matter. ....
