Four people charged with criminal damage following the toppling of a statue of slave trader Edward Colston have today entered not guilty pleas.
The bronze figure was pulled down during a Black Lives Matter protest before being thrown into Bristol Harbour on June 7.
Rhian Graham, 29, Milo Ponsford, 25, Jake Skuse, 36, and Sage Willoughby, 21, appeared before Bristol Crown Court.
Charges allege the four defendants, without lawful excuse, jointly and with others, damaged the statue of Colston, a listed monument belonging to Bristol City Council.
It is claimed that the defendants committed the offence intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged .  ....

Covid Scold: Govt Scientist Tells Britons Not to Enjoy Good Weather

1 Mar 2021
A member of the British government’s scientific advisory panel has implied that the prime minister’s timetable for lifting lockdown could be set back if Britons take advantage of any rare warm Spring weather and undertake allegedly risky business such as going to the beach or meeting up with friends.
Professor Calum Semple, who sits on the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), said people gathering represented a “big worry” for his colleagues and the government, claiming it could undo the progress made by Britons spending a year under lockdown.
“Really, we do urge people to take care. We’re just not quite there on the road map we can’t take a short cut with people’s health,” Professor Semple told Sky News on Sunday. ....

Henry resident's retirement goes to the dogs

McDONOUGH — Looking for a way to boost her spirits during the pandemic, retired resident Faye Hindson, 71, turned her attention to Henry County’s residents with four paws.
She’s been adopting rescues for years. Her first, a stray redbone hound named Maple, got her thinking about animal homelessness and how she could help.
Hindson began volunteering for Paws Between Homes, a nonprofit that acts as a safety net for people and their pets experiencing housing loss. Over the last year she has fostered several dogs including Cyrus, a Jack Russell terrier, and Sage, a Yorkshire terrier.
Cole Thaler, board president of Paws Between Homes, said Hindson has a natural way about her as a caregiver, giving the attention and TLC they need while away from their owner. She knows what they need to make sure they do not feel abandoned, he added. ....
