In September 2018, Mari-Louise Harpe went outside her building in the Downtown Eastside to have a cigarette. Two police officers told her she had to move, even though Harpe tried to explain she lived in the building. ....

Parents and advocates both for and against having police liaison officers in schools are upset about the Vancouver School Board’s recent decision to discontinue the long-running program.
The cancellation comes 10 months after students, families and community advocates began calling for an end to the program that places a Vancouver Police Department liaison officer in each of the district’s high schools. Officers deliver safety and crime prevention lessons, coach teams, counsel students, escort field trips, and more.
