In addition, adverse risk perceptions mean that most international investors and asset managers still have only a marginal presence on the continent.
But Africa urgently needs to attract international capital. After the continent’s pandemic-induced recession in 2020, the African Development Bank expects real GDP to grow by only 3.4% this year. This projected recovery will not generate the resources we need to meet our development needs.

Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) has announced a strategic partnership with BIO Ventures for Global Health (BVGH) to realise NSIA’s vision for reducing the impact of cancer in Nigeria.
As it stands, cancer is a serious health threat in Nigeria, with 116,000 new cancer cases reported each year and more than 70,000 deaths annually.
The collaboration between NSIA-LUTH Cancer and BVGH focuses on three core deliverables including the establishment of sustainable access to high quality and affordable cancer medicines and technologies; building clinical and radiation oncology expertise by helping to train and expand the skills of oncologists, and to forge international partnerships and catalyze clinical research. ....

WIPO Re:Search has welcomed a 150th member to the global network fighting neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), malaria, and tuberculosis (TB), with Colombia s venerable University of Antioquia joining the flagship WIPO public-private partnership.
WIPO and the U.S.-based BIO Ventures for Global Health (BVGH) established WIPO Re:Search in 2011 to accelerate early-stage research and development (R&D) for NTDs, malaria and TB. This is achieved through the sharing of intellectual property (IP) among the global health research community on a royalty-free basis. The target diseases affect some 2 billion people globally, disproportionally striking the world s most vulnerable individuals.  ....
