There has been widespread public concern among parents over what one local mother referred to as a “lack of true commitment and due care” by the HSE to children with diabetes at Mullingar Regional Hospital.
Earlier this month, the parents of 130 children of the hospital’s Paediatric Diabetes Unit received a letter from Paediatric Consultant, Professor Michael O’Grady, regretfully informing them that “due to ongoing, unsafe staffing levels”, all paediatric diabetes clinic appointments would be cancelled “with immediate effect”. ....

The death occurred,peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, January 29 of Mary Conmy (née Kelly), Rathcline, Lanesboro, Longford. Mary was the loving and much loved wife of Frank, devoted mother of Catherine, Stephen and Edward, and the loving sister to Florence, Eugene, Catherine and the late Imelda. She is deeply missed by her son in law, daughters in law, her grandchildren Ella, Niamh, Tom, Ben, Louis and Juliette, her dear friend Freda, relatives, neighbours and her wide circle of friends. Deeply regretted by his brothers John (Dublin), Peter (New York), sisters Mary and Sheila (New York), sisters in law, brothers in law, nephews, nieces, neighbours and a large circle of friends. Reposing at his residence on Saturday, December 12. Thomas s funeral cortege will leave his residence at 12.15pm on Sunday, December 13 to arrive at St Columba s Church, Mullinalaghta for Funeral Mass at 1pm. Burial immediately afterwards in the local cemetery. The above Mass can be live streamed on the Parish of Gowna and Mullinalaghta Facebook page. ....
