"ELECTION IS IN THE AIR": PLP leader insists early election is coming – Eye Witness News

(FILE PHOTO)
NASSAU, BAHAMAS Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Leader Philip Brave Davis yesterday accused the Free National Movement (FNM) of “obfuscating” the intentions of the prime minister and the party regarding the upcoming general election.
In a memo sent out on April 29, the Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) advised its heads of departments to submit the names of marines expected to vote in the advanced polls in the upcoming general election, “in preparation for the possibility of an early General Election”.
Earlier this week, Minister of National Security Marvin Dames, who has responsibility for elections, dismissed the memo as “nothing out of the ordinary”.

NOTHING TO SEE HERE: House speaker says "all issues have been resolved" with executive – Eye Witness News

Halson Moultrie.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS House Speaker Halson Moultrie advised yesterday that “all issues have been resolved” between him and members of the executive, following a contentious House meeting last week over the failure to respond to a COVID-19 exposure in the Lower Chamber.
Parliamentarians met briefly yesterday for the first sitting of the House of Assembly since Moultrie abruptly adjourned parliamentary proceedings last week after no action was taken when a staff member contracted COVID-19.
Speaking to
Eyewitness News on the steps of the Bay Street building, Moultrie said: “The staff members were tested on Friday. The House has been sanitized and in a discussion with the prime minister and the leader of government business this morning, all issues have been resolved.”

Cooper blasts govt. over parliamentary "war" – Eye Witness News

“Our children are watching these discourses”
NASSAU, BAHAMAS Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Deputy Leader Chester Cooper yesterday lambasted the government over the abrupt adjournment of parliamentary proceedings.
House Speaker Halson Moultrie accused the executive branch of the government of failing to act in response to a COVID-19 exposure in the Lower Chamber and of “disrespecting” him.
Cooper told reporters he believed Parliament should not have convened in the face of a staffer testing positive, adding the speaker’s discourse was “concerning” and “unhealthy”.
“While we have long held the view that the Minnis administration is inept and unfit for governance, we did not think it would have overseen what appears to be the unraveling of the legislative branch of our democracy,” he said.
