County commissioners will continue to broadcast meetings electronically

Like many municipal governments, St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners has approved a state of emergency to continue broadcasting its meetings electronically.
During their first in-person meeting since fall 2020, commissioners on Tuesday agreed they will stick to assembling in-person for their twice-per-month board meetings. 
The commission, however, agreed it would be prudent to maintain public broadcast of meetings via Zoom.
Without approval of the local emergency declaration, the board and other panels under the umbrella of the county commission would not have the option of conducting virtual meetings.
“Some don’t feel comfortable meeting in person yet … some of the commissioners have heard from them, asking us to extend (the declaration) so that they can continue to meet virtually as opposed to back in person,” board chairman Dennis Allen said. “This gives them freedom of choice, (though) we plan on remaini ....

COVID-19 vaccine locations announced across region

As COVID-19 cases continue in the area, officials from Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency remind residents to continue to be cautious and to get vaccinated against the virus. 
“This is not the time to throw caution to the wind and be especially careful until more people are vaccinated,” health officer Rebecca Burns said in a statement. “Wearing masks, physically distancing, avoiding crowds, washing hands frequently and getting vaccinated when it becomes available will help reduce the spread of COVID-19.”
The COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7 was identified last week in a Branch County COVID-19-positive resident. That person has been in isolation since initial COVID-19 diagnosis. All three counties in the tri-county area have had a sample identified as the B.1.1.7 variant.  ....
