According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), the number of children in child labor decreased by approximately 94 million between 2000 and 2016, representing a drop of 38 percent. But as the pandemic caused massive school closures and unprecedented loss of jobs and income for millions of families, many children have entered the workforce to help their families survive, while others have been forced to work longer hours or enter more precarious and exploitative situations. The Child Sensitive Social Protection (CSSP) Programme is a flagship programme for the Arua Area Office (AAO) and of strategic significance to WFP in Uganda. In this programme, WFP plays an “enabler” role to District Local Governments (DLGs) for six refugee hosting districts (Adjumani, Koboko, Madi Okollo, Obongi, Terego and Yumbe) and national government agencies through system strengthening for better results, greater ownership, and sustainable outcomes. The CSSP supports two work streams: design and implementation of a nutrition-sensitive cash-based transfer; and strengthening three government social protection programmes being implemented at the district level. These are the Senior Citizens Grant (SCG) under the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development; and two programmes under the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM): Development Response to Displacement I ....

Almost 45,000 pensioners to receive additional payments this Saturday

Almost 45,000 pensioners will be receiving an annual payment of up to €350 from this coming Saturday, in the form of improvements to two existing social measures.
Family Minister Michael Falzon, along with his ministry s permanent secretary Mark Musu, announced the payments on Wednesday.
The Senior Citizens Grant will be given to persons who are still living in the community and are aged 75 years and over. Those aged between 75 and 79 will receive €300, while those aged over 80 years will receive €350.
This grant will also be given to people living in a private home for the elderly and are paying for the service directly. ....

Around 44,500 elderly beneficiaries of over-75 grant and special bonus to receive benefits on Saturday

Pensioners aged over 75 and elderly people who did not pay enough social security contributions to receive a pension, will start receiving their grants on Saturday.
Around 44,500 pensioners will benefit from the two social measures, which will see higher pay outs this year, the Social Solidarity Ministry said.
The Senior Citizens Grant will see those aged between 75 and 79 receive a one-off bonus of €300, while those aged 80 and over will receive €350. The bonus will be paid out to those who live in the community, or are residing at private care homes at their own expense.
Permanent Secretary Mark Musu said 33,732 beneficiaries who are 75 years and older will benefit from this grant for an expenditure of €11,004,103. ....
