Montevideo, Apr 29 (Prensa Latina) Medical and scientific authorities in Uruguay confirmed on Thursday that the viral strain causing Covid-19, known as P1, is circulating throughout the country and has attacked younger age groups.
This conclusion was reached by the Inter-institutional Working Group for the Monitoring of Variants of the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus, which causes the disease, made up of representatives of the Public Health Ministry, the Pasteur Institute and the University of the Republic.
Of a total of 493 samples analyzed throughout the country, 89 percent were found to contain the aggressive strain that originally appeared in Brazil. ....

One dose of Sputnik V is enough for strong immune response in people previously infected with Covid-19, Argentina study claims

People who already had the coronavirus show rapid immune response to Sputnik V and may require just one shot of the Russian jab during vaccination, a study in Buenos Aires found.
Participants developed Covid-19 antibodies in 100 percent of the cases after both doses of Sputnik V were administered to them, a study by Buenos Aires-based Leloir Institute Foundation (FIL) revealed.
The research, which was supported by the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) and the provincial health ministry, saw 142 volunteers from among Buenos Aires medical workers aged between 18 and 59 taking part. They were tested before the vaccination, three weeks after the first shot and the same period after the second one. ....
