KDOT takes the short-term traffic counts using rubber tubes strung across the roadway and connected to a traffic counting device, which records the number of vehicles passing over the tubes, said Kim Stich, a spokeswoman for KDOT.
Whenever a vehicle drives over the tube, the traffic counter records it by sensing the air forced through the tube, she said. ....
