I was destined to become a writer


In my sixth-grade homeroom class, I remember all the 20-odd students were required to take a personality quiz to find out how we best learned. Some students would learn best with their hands, some with art and pictures, but I was the only writer, driven by words to learn.
As I aged into high school, I hardly would describe myself as a writer since I struggled through the long essays and sentence structure exercises in my English classes. However, it was in college at the University of New Mexico that I discovered it was my destiny.
I entered college in 2016 after graduating from Mayfield High School in Las Cruces earlier that year with the hopes of pursuing broadcast journalism since “that’s where the money is for a pretty face like yours,” as one of my high school teachers would always tell me. I realize now that this is a problematic comment, but that’s not the point. ....

Antonia Gonzales: We know that COVID-19 has hit Indian Country hard. But right now many tribal nations across the country are outpacing other communities. When it comes to administering COVID-19 vaccinations, the Navajo Nation exceeded goals of administering 100,000 doses by the end of February. What can we learn about how tribal nations are vaccinating their populations?
Dr. Fauci: They re doing something right. And I think that what we need to do is set that as an example and keep it up. What you have is, I guess, the community spirit among the tribal nations are such that when you have something that you realize is important for your health, for that of your family, and for that of your community. I know it s a close knit community. So perhaps that s one of the reasons why when something as lifesaving as a vaccine comes along, the uptake of it is very smooth and very efficient. So in ....

Despite all the talk of people leaving the Bay Area during the pandemic, only a small fraction of residents have left the state, suggesting that reports of an exodus have been exaggerated, according to a Chronicle analysis of United States Postal Service data.
Only 3.7% of the households and businesses that filed address changes in five Bay Area counties from March to November 2020 left California, a total of 4,264 move outs, according to the data. ....
