DEMING – Deming Public Schools Board of Education approved the 2021-2022 School
Calendar on Thursday, April 15, 2021 during their regular board meeting. New Mexico State Legislature provided funding through the K-5 Plus program and the Extended Learning Time program, to add 25 days of instruction for Elementary Schools and 10 days of instruction for Secondary Schools.
The first day of school for Elementary Schools (K-5) is Friday July 2, 2021 and for Secondary Schools (6-12) is Monday, July 26, 2021. All students are expected to attend and start school on these dates, as schools will be providing class schedules and school information. If your family has plans or a vacation scheduled during this time, please contact your school so they can work with you during these planned absences. ....

Looking back over 2020, Director Thom Mason said it is the 13,000 Laboratory employees that he is most proud of … how they have stepped up and met the challenges of a global pandemic.

Just shifting that large number of employees from working onsite to working remotely was quite an endeavor and Mason commended the employees on having adapted so well.
“Those employees that had to be onsite were safer by not having more people here,” he said during a recent interview with the Los Alamos Daily Post. ....

NMSU to host virtual New Mexico Governor's STEM Challenge Dec. 12 | Article


High school students from 33 schools will be competing for $5,000 in prize money from 18 employers in the second New Mexico Governor’s STEM Challenge. Hosted and organized by New Mexico State University, the Los Alamos National Labs Foundation, New Mexico Department of Public Education and New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions, this event will be entirely virtual Saturday, Dec. 12.
Ten-person student teams have submitted solutions to the NMSU formulated question, “How can you combine New Mexico’s natural resources with technology to address regional/global needs?” Employer partners have provided judges who will rate the solutions based on quality, creativity, presentation, and how they match up with skills that employers need for future hires in their own industries. Selected teams will receive $500 per student in cash. ....
