Fireworks Prohibited On BLM Lands In New Mexico
BLM News:
SANTA FE – Due to ongoing fire danger in many parts of the state, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) New Mexico State Office has issued a fire prevention order prohibiting fireworks on BLM-managed lands throughout the state.
The order takes effect Wednesday June 30, 2021, and expires Friday, Dec. 31, 2021.
“Recent moisture has not alleviated the fire danger in many parts of the state,” Acting State Director Melanie Barnes said. “If you are visiting public lands to celebrate Independence Day, please leave your fireworks at home.”
A violation of this order is subject to punishment by a fine of not more than $1,000 or imprisonment of not more than 12 months or both. Anyone violating this order will be liable to the United States for damages through either an administrative process or in United States federal court.   ....

Officials say these wells tend to not have had great maintenance and cleaning them up is important to protect both the environment and the health of nearby communities.
Democratic Senator Ben Ray Luján says he plans to introduce legislation to clean up orphaned oil and gas wells. This comes as President Joe Biden’s American Jobs Plan calls for spending $16 billion to plug abandoned wells and mines. ....
