No child left hungry Children of all ages throughout Alachua County will again be fed breakfast and lunch this summer. Thanks to a federally funded food service program that runs from Monday through July 23, children from infants to 18 years old can receive free breakfast and lunch at 93 locations with a multitude of options that include in-person, bus routes, curb side grab and go and the Alachua County School District s food truck, which visits underserved neighborhoods including Hidden Oaks, Majestic Oaks and the Swag Family Resource Center. The first initiative is a partnership between Dolly Parton s Imagination Library, a international book-distribution program started by the country singer, and the local group Gainesville Thrives. The effort aims to deliver a book once a month to children living in Gainesville’s 32609 ZIP code from birth to age 4. Gainesville Thrives has funding for 120 children and already enrolled about 70, according to Linda Fuchs, the group’s founder and spouse of the University of Florida s president. The group is seeking sponsors to be able to distribute books to each of the 1,000 to 1,200 children living in the ZIP code. Donating a year’s worth of home-delivered books to a child costs $27.
