The first initiative is a partnership between Dolly Parton s Imagination Library, a international book-distribution program started by the country singer, and the local group Gainesville Thrives. The effort aims to deliver a book once a month to children living in Gainesville’s 32609 ZIP code from birth to age 4. Gainesville Thrives has funding for 120 children and already enrolled about 70, according to Linda Fuchs, the group’s founder and spouse of the University of Florida s president. The group is seeking sponsors to be able to distribute books to each of the 1,000 to 1,200 children living in the ZIP code. Donating a year’s worth of home-delivered books to a child costs $27. Smith Funeral Home JOHNSON, Waltirmore Sidney âPete,â age 80, of Sunnyside, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones, on Wednesday December 9, 2020. He was born September 28, 1940 in Toppenish to Sidney âSidâ Waltirmore Johnson and Mildred âMillieâ Pantelef. He earned his GED while serving in the U.S. military. He served at Ft. Bragg, NC and in the Military Reserve, 1963-1969. He married Linda Fuchs November 15, 1969, and they shared 52 years together. While Pete grew up helping on the family farm, he worked primarily as a carpenter throughout the Pacific Northwest for 50+ years. He was a man of many interests, including cars/hotrods, guns, hunting, motorcycles, cribbage and other card games, reading, was an avid observer of the stock market, and cherished spending time with his family and friends.
